Adam Rolfe is Senior Manager of Good Governance at Levin Sources. Adam has expert knowledge of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) formalisation, public sector governance and strategic planning processes at the national and international level. Adam has worked with, amongst others, the governments of Kenya, DRC, Guinea, Uganda, Ethiopia and CAR to enhance understanding and governance of their mining sectors. He has a proven track record of delivering results including the development of ASM national strategies, country-wide ASM baseline studies and the drafting and revision of international responsible sourcing standards to improve market access for ASM operators. Adam’s strategy work, which includes leading on the development of the ASM Gold Due Diligence Strategy for the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the Kenyan AM National Strategy, balances local economic development and rights-based approaches with national priorities such as enhanced revenue capture. Adam has a deep knowledge of African ASM policy, legal, regulatory and institutional frameworks and has first-hand experience of how this can impact the incentive structures for value chain actors to formalise. Adam holds a Masters in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelors in History and Politics from Queen Mary, University of London. He is a native English speaker and fluent in French.
