COVID-19 Impact on ASM News about how COVID-19 is affecting artisanal and small scale mining in the world

Survey Tool: Standardized ASM Questionnaire

This tool, available in either English or French, is a standardized questionnaire designed to be included in baseline surveys of ASM populations to ensure that the same key quantitative and qualitative metrics are collected across programmes, projects, and research. These metrics include demographics (age, educational attainment, hometown and ethnicity), details of work (minerals and materials mines, license type, mine location, drivers for mining) economics (income, expenditure, additional livelihoods), and challenges (reflections on personal experience and issues facing miners in the locale). Using this tool to capture the same information each time an ASM community is surveyed will enable a comparable shared evidence base for to be developed, thereby helping to improve data quality and understanding of the sector. A key gap is for Delve users to translate the tool into more languages so that it can be applied both globally and locally.
