Dr. Bala-Miller is founder and CEO of Palmyra Partners. She has 20 years of practitioner experience in sustainable development on behalf of global rights-based organizations, trade unions, UN Agencies and institutional investors. She holds a Masters in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University, where her dissertation examined the role of coltan mining on conflict dynamics in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the early 2000's. Her PhD, awarded by the University of British Columbia focuses on the role of institutional investors in advancing human rights compliance by the corporations, including extractives-related case illustrations from Myanmar, Papua New Guinea and Western Sahara. Cumulatively, Dr. Bala-Miller has specialist expertise in sustainable finance, human rights and gender equality, and has represented stakeholder concerns at a number of high-level policy fora including the World Bank, OECD, UN Commission for Sustainable Development and European Commission.
