On April 26-28, 2022, the GEF-supported planetGOLD programme will host the 2022 Global Forum on Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining, a virtual event bringing together miner representatives, policy and technical experts, practitioners, governments, and donors in order to exchange knowledge and experiences, while ultimately spurring action toward making mercury history in the ASGM sector.
Sessions will explore key mechanisms to improve financial access for the ASGM sector; global experiences with creating responsible gold supply chains from ASGM operations; approaches to advance formalization; technologies for mercury-free gold production; addressing gender inequalities in the sector; mercury trade issues; and more.
The program features plenary and parallel sessions on April 26th and 27th, while April 28th consists of two complementary sets of sessions with a regional focus, followed by a World Bank event on forest-smart mining. Explore the schedule for more details on the programming each day.
Live interpretation will be available all three days in English, French, and Spanish. The session on the 28th of April spotlighting Indonesia will additionally include live interpretation in Bahasa Indonesia.
The Global Forum on ASGM is organized by planetGOLD, a programme supported by the Global Environment Facility, led by the United Nations Environment Programme, and implemented in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, United Nations Development Programme, and Conservation International. The programme supports countries’ commitments under the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
