Niger

While the mining industry in Niger is famous for being the world’s fourth biggest producer of uranium, very few studies have focused on the ASM sector in the country. This is remarkable, since an estimated 450,000 people1; are expected to work in the sector, primarily producing gold, salt, gypsum, and cassiterite. More than 20% of the population depends on the ASM sector as a single or complementary source of their livelihoods.2,3
