2020 State of the ASM Sector Report Learn about artisanal and small-scale mining's contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 8 in our new report

Chad

Overshadowed by the country's oil sector, Chad's artisanal mining sector remains relatively underdeveloped. Regional gold booms in 2012 & 2016 have set off rushes in multiple areas across the country resulting in clashes between miners, armies and non-state actors.1 The artisanal mining population is estimated at 313,1002 mostly focused on gold and natron with additional operations associated with tungsten.3
